Stew Rice Fundraiser Sponsorship

Our favorite local playhouse – Kumu Kahua (Original Stage) Theatre (KKT) has been adjusting to the evolving “new normal”, keeping our doors open virtually and offering quality online performances of plays by, for, and about the people of Hawaiʻi. We’ll soon be able to present in person again, but we’ll stay active online as well. Ticket prices will remain accessible to students, fixed income citizens, and all those facing financial challenges, and we will continue our popular “pay-what-you-can” policy for virtual shows. But to make all of this possible, we need the support of our generous friends! To kick off our fundraising efforts, KKT will present a special reading of one our community’s favorite plays, the late Edward Sakamoto’s Stew Rice, with performances by the original cast from the 1995 Season, featuring actors Karen Kaulana-Lobel, Amy Nishihara, Sharon Aoki, Michael “Sun” Lee, Jason Scott Lee, and Marcus Oshiro. The reading will be at 7:00 PM on Saturday, July 17, 2021, streamed online via YouTube and Facebook. It will be free to watch and widely advertised through print and digital media. The evening’s hosts will be KHONs Brook Lee (1997 Miss Hawaiʻi, Miss USA, and Miss Universe), and well-known local actor, writer, and director, Wil Kāhele. Today, we ask you to consider sponsoring KKT’s reading of Stew Rice at one of the levels listed below. We look forward to seeing you there. Please call Donna Blanchard at (219) 741-4880 should you have any questions or have other ideas for our theatre.
